About the ending

Why did Velda end up working in K-Mart?

reply

I think it was a play on the fact that she kept Annie in line by saying she was so pathetic the only job she would be able to get what a cashier at K-Mart. Or something like that.

reply

because she needed a job after how things ended up.

reply

But isn't Girl Scout Troop leader a voluntary job in the first place.

reply

Yeah it was supposed to be funny ebcause she kept telling Annie she was going to end up back at K-Mart "aisle 2"

reply

i agree with the other. its was supposed to be one of those funny ironic twist of faiths to show us the she always told annie that would be the only job she would be able to get if she wasnt working with the troops./

reply

AMDG

Another funny irony is that she has to announce to K-mart shoppers that there is a special on cookies!

[deleted]

troop leaders do volunteer, but i think she also was employed by the girl scouts company (or whatever you call it)

reply

It was The Wilderness Girls of America!

reply

Hey I think we were all willing to join Plendor's Pillgrims!!

reply

Or Plendor's Pioneers!!

reply

Maybe we'll join Velda's Avengers!

reply

It's too bad to see Velda leave, she was always fun at Halloween parties.

reply

What I think is strange is that earlier in the movie, Velda says she was a nurse in the army. Why in the world would a registered nurse be working at k-mart? I realize it was meant for laughs, but it still doesn't make much sense.

reply

She would be one scary nurse.

reply

I always got the impression than Velda ALWAYS worked at K-Mart, since, like another poster said, troop work is voluntary. Velda obviously felt that a cashier was far superior to an aisle person, that's why the put-down.

Working in the Wilderness Girls gave Velda a sense of power, when in the real world she (like most of us) was a nobody, something she despised. Hence her win-at-all-costs attitude!
