shareI was four when this movie came out, so I can't really remember that time very well, but I rewatched it again, and I could not believe the kinds of things that the people of the 1980s wore. I find myself wondering if people actually thought those clothes were cool.

Love isn't brains, children, it's blood...blood screaming inside you to work its will.
I'm just watching the movie and I was thinking to myself that I absolutely love Shelley Long's outfits! They are really fabulous!
shareYou're not the only one. I just mentioned it here:

The fashion is FANTASTIC in this movie!!! I honestly loved all of Shelly's looks and her hats were to die for!
shareI was 4 when the movie came out and I think the clothes are horrible and the hats OMG!

My mom loved all the clothes. I really liked Anna's dress at the party, the one with the pink ribbons on it.
shareThe clothes were one thing. Kinda kitschy in an 80s sense.
But that freakin BIRD she was wearing on her lapel was HUGE! Why hasn't anyone commented on that!!!
Frankly, style-wise I considered most of Long's "fashions" a tad hideous. The hats were pretty cool but some of those cocktail dresses, not so much.
And that black gown with the "missing bead" she sharked the saleswoman into knocking off $350 was mortifying. I wouldn't have been caught dead in it.
Then again, everyone's tastes are different. Most of Beacham's [stephanie] attire was fab though.

I love the fashion in this movie, and while ridiculous there are some solid concepts that still get used. Like her dress at the check presenting soiree...soft colors mixed with harsh lines still work wonderfully, imo. With a little toning down I could see quite a few of the looks in this working in modern times, actually. And the giant glitter bird is pure fab!
When you're 17 a cow can seem dangerous and forbidden...am I alone here?
I just rewatched the film last night, and just remembered how OUTRAGEOUS the outfits were! No way people wore those in real life!
Let the storm rage on, the cold never bothered me anyway...

I find her (or Henri's )take on the Wilderness Girls Leader uniform more interesting now, than her 1980s fashions.
shareI found the fashion silly but fun. Long pulls them off with such gusto.
shareHell yeah!!! All designed by the late great Theadora Van Runkle!
