Sally Field

Now don't all ya'll go a bash'n me for what I'm 'bout to say hyer but....who besides me thought that perhaps Sally had a brain-fart during that graveside scene and started recreating one of her prior famous characters, Sybil?

reply

OK, I won't bash you---maybe kick your butt a little. Have you buried a child? I'd say Ms. Field's performance was pretty darn good! Who wouldn't want someone else to hurt as badly as they hurt?

reply

Yes, I've known loss firsthand, but my impulse wasn't the desire for others to hurt as much as myself. And, I wasn't speaking to "M'Lynn's" character so much as I was Ms. Field's portrayal and how there seemed to be a schizophrenic moment there at the graveside very reminiscent of "Sybil". I adore Sally Field so I'll blame it all on Herbert Ross, the director.

reply

My thoughts EXACTLY at the time and every time I watch, and it always bothered me just a bit....Glad someone else saw it!

Another spastic insincere performance, was it? Such an overrated actress who can do no wrong. The role should had gone to peer Patty Duke who would had reached the depths of such a moment. She's likely trying to experience emotions that she's never had in real life
