9 bridesmaids pretentious?
Do you agree with Shelby that having so many bridesmaids is pretentious? Why or why not?

shareI'm not sure pretentious is the word, but why would you need that many? I think 2 or 3 (including maid of honor) is sufficient.
shareIt's an old thing. It used to be that the number of attendants corresponded to the size and scope of the wedding. Big, expensive ones had tons of attendants and smaller, modest ones had fewer. I imagine that idea was falling out of fashion even then but that stuff can linger.
shareListening to them talk at Truvvy's that morning it sounded to me like Shelby originally only wanted three to four bridesmaids, but her mother insisted that her cousins and a family friend had to part of wedding party as well. Sometimes it's just easier to let everyone be part of the wedding than create a riff with in-laws/extended family.
"The end of the shoelace is called the...IT DOESN'T MATTER!"
I had four people in my bridal party; 3 bridesmaids and 1 maid of honor. Trust me, that was plenty!!
shareI don't even know 9 people.
shareTo some people it would probably seem a bit much. I think it just depends on what type of wedding you are having, how many friends , relatives, siblings you want in your wedding party......
I honestly can't judge because everyone is different. It's up to the couple and how much money they have to spend and how big of a wedding they are planning.
