One of the most depressing films I've ever seen

I normally consider myself pretty desenitized to most disturbing movies, but this one will stick with me for sometime. The whole thing was just so goddamn depressing, but the last half hour in particular just left me with a feeling of complete despair.

I like to describe myself as "a grizzled horror fan who has seen some shit," including four of Haneke's. Full disclosure, two were the German and U.S. versions of Funny Games. I prefer the German, if only because I don't know any of the actors, so it seemed "more real," I guess. Plus I have had a huge crush on Naomi Watts since Mulholland Dr.

There are a couple of his films that have been on my watchlist for years, but this one is the one I fully admit I'm scared to watch. When I was younger I was like "bring it on!" if a film was considered extremely disturbing, but maybe about five years ago they seemed to "get to me" more. I don't know why. I mean, I've seen many disturbing, touching and emotional films, but who wants to get depressed? Maybe when the world hopefully unfucks itself in my lifetime, I'll give it a shot, as he is a brilliant filmmaker.

I think Funny Games is far more morbid than this one. Nothing comes close to the really long shot after the son's death in the German Funny Games.
