Fans of the film who live in NYC.....
Does anyone know the general location where Richard and Gene were eating ice cream cones in the film? I'm visiting the Big Apple this week and would like to visit the locale.

shareLooked like Greenwich Village to me. An earlier shot in the film, by the way, features the Jefferson Market Library at Sixth Avenue and West 10th Street in Greenwich Village--it's one of the more well-known landmarks in the Village. It's obviously a second unit shot (it's in the establishing city shots at the beginning of the film), but the ice cream scenes look like Greenwich Village to me too--there are lots of little squares and park benches in that area.
shareThanks, Brandt.

The first 15 minutes or so are filmed almost exclusively at Union Square, specifically Union Square East and 4th Avenue - which is where Gene Wilder works and of course where the crime takes place. It is called the Zeckendorf Towers and there is/was an A&P Grocery Store in the lower level.
I was living near there when they were filming in late August 1988.
