Being a huge admirer of Kevin Spacey I decided to rent See No Evil Hear No Evil just for laughs (and I did get a few). But I was greatly distracted by that huge thing on Spacey's face. Did anyone else notice that he looked like he had recently received a forceful blow to the left cheekbone, or am I crazy?
Having seen 'The Negotiator' and 'Glengarry Glen Ross' last week, and looking forward to this evening, with 'L.A. Confidential' on television, it was inevitable that I thought about Kevin Spacey, and, in the process, I wondered if 'See no evil...' was his debut (back in the old days I watched it because Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor were in it, of course. Many years later I watched it once more because Kevin Spacey was in it). Searching I M D B for a summary of Spacey's films, I suddenly thought of the BUMP on his jaw in 'See no evil..' and searched The Board to see if anyone else had noticed THE BUMP and had an explanation. And there it was, along with ONE funny (?) reaction. Regarding the fact that you posted your question in 2003, I don't expect many reactions, but, well, who knows....?
'Buddy Holly doesn't seem to be much of a waiter'.
Thank you CATLUVR! But I'm still curious; was it some kind of tumor or what? Do you know that? I know that it's not REALLY important, but nonetheless...
'Buddy Holly doesn't seem to be much of a waiter'.
I absolutely love this film! I actually have a rather embarassing soft spot for kevin spacey! (odd, i know!), but the fact that when i was just browsing through imbd out of boredom i found a message board where people are discussing the BOIL on his face, i figure tht i must not be the only one who is a big fan of the ledge! (who is, obviously, a great actor).
It could be for his main character in the movie or he actually had a mole. Who knows really because for some odd reason when I first saw this movie it drew my attention to it. I do not know why but it did. It sort of reminded me of that principle from Uncle Buck in that movie. LOL
For anyone who is seriously interested or is concerned (and not just posting to make jokes about him), he did have a boil there, and it can be seen in other films around that same time (smaller in earlier performances). Then he must have had it removed. To this day, if you look closely, there is a mark there, an indentation, in the same spot where it used to be.
Hope this answers the question for those who have concerns. I hope no one continues to joke about it on this thread.
My guess is that he developed it just before shooting and there was nothing that could be done to re arrange the shooting schedule. It was distracting and it really shouldn't have been. I think we are a country that focuses too much on a person's looks.
If you love and support Michael Jackson 100%, copy & paste this into your signature. We love MJ!

Which country are you referring to, out of curiosity?
Really, that's just society in general. Human nature.
>>The United States and our preoccupation with looks.
I don't know (or really care, to be quite frank) if other countries are similarly obsessed with defects. <<
Of course that's not just restricted to the U.S. Basic human nature, though I personally would never point out or make fun or stare at someone's 'defect', there are so many millions of losers out there who wouldn't be able to help themselves. And that's just sad.
Black people do that kind of stuff all the time, I've noticed. Make fun of other people because of their physical characteristics. Liberal Democrats as well.
