John Goodman turned it Mainstream

I like John Goodman. With the Coen Brothers especially he can be more than a funny mainstream actor, placed in a movie to make people giggle and get their money's worth for opening night or a weekend show. But in this movie, despite the fact he does have pretty decent chemistry with Al Pacino, he's given too many Cliche Cop Buddy Movie lines, or he says things that seem catered to a conventional audience and hinders the experience of watching an Al Pacino Flick. After the woman during the "date" says "If you're a printer I have a dick," Goodman says, smoking in the alley, "Could you go out with a girl with a dick," and it's like... okay, we heard the line, which was funny, and, I don't know... I just wonder how SEA OF LOVE would be with someone a bit more edgy and not so... fun and movieish.
