What was Keith David there for?
Did he have some scenes cut?
Anyone could have played his character.

I listened to the directors commentary with Rowdy Harrington(?), and he said there was a deleted scene where Keith David’s Ernie and his wife go to the Double Deuce to watch Codys band. Some racist rednecks give him a hard time and start picking a fight. Dalton steps in, takes care of the situation, then offers Ernie a job as bartender.
shareI'm gonna guess that he was there for a paycheck. :) He pretty much started as a TV Movie actor in the mid to late 80's so along with Men At Work, where he had a more prevalent role so Road House was probably a couple week's work and he was on his way to a much busier career in the 90's.
shareHe was great in "The Thing", and his part in "Requiem for a Dream" was classic, "I know it's pretty baby, but it didn't come out for air".
shareDefinitely great in "The Thing". It's strange to look at his career from then. He went from a masterpiece like "The Thing" to a bunch of TV movies but then really took off. I loved his character in "There's Something About Mary".
"Sheila, honey... you gotta come see THIS!" and that smile he had on his face was priceless!
