Just finished firsst viewing about an hour ago...

...and it was GREAT!!! Not as scary as you all made it seem to be, but definatley something I won't forget. I loved Erik's burned face and felt that the time-traveling was realistic enough that I didn't roll my eyes at it. The image of Joseph's dead, skinned, partly alive, body in Carlotta's closet still runs through my ming...AND I'M NOT AFFECTED!! I actually think that this film has cured me of my easy-to-scare nature! Carlotta's head in the soup was one of many highlights for me...I can still see her eye rolled back into her head. In all, a great POTO movie, even though there was no chandelier. I must say that I really LOVED Erik's Red Death outfit. The mask was so perfectly creepy.

Would you also believe that I found this at a Blockbuster? I did! I was in shock since less than a month ago they told me that they didn't have ANY POTO films. I'd lost faith in them and felt that their selection was poor, but my faith has returned and I have found a new frequent rental. I'll be looking for it on the pre-viewed DVD rack.

BTW, I watched it in fullscreen since the friend I was with hates widescreen, which I love. I'm going to watch it again in widescreen to get the full effect.

*edit*

As a question to those who have seen the silent POTO: Did any of you notice that the "Faust" music is the same in both versions? I didn't realize that until I really listened to the music during the opera scenes. I must say that it was nice hearing word with it, even though I could read the lips of the silent actors.

This is one non-musical film that I might actually buy the soundtrack to.
