Spoiler-?? about scene

During the part in the movie when Erik turns to Christine and says, "Tonight, you'll be my bride," and they walk off camera...
do they:
a) get married in a private ceremony
b) have sex
c) or something else?

What do you all think?

reply

well, sex is another way of marriage, i mean in Tess of the D'Urbervilles, when Angel found out that tess was raped, he yells out "How can he be your Husband by Nature and not I." so in a way sex was another step in marriage. or they actually did get married. all i remembe ris him forcing the ring on her finger, and her looking all shocked about it.

reply

Nothing is shown, so it's certainly open to interpretation. I don't think they had sex; he was something of a supernatural entity, so it wouldn't "work." But he made her agree never to love another and let her go, I think.

reply

I think they had sex. In EVERY version of this book/show, she loved Erik until she saw his face.

When I bought the DVD of this version, the back cover calls Erik her lover.

I sort of thought he just led her back above ground....I mean, weren't they kind of conservative back then? Wouldn't Christine protest and say marriage first. I don't know. Whatever, the storyline didn't make sense anyway...I mean, she was pulled back in time I guess yet she had this whole identity set up in that time and a past with some remnants of memory from the future and then when she sort of defeats him in the end, she goes back to the future-maybe it's a past life. Is that what it is? But then if it's that, how did she know about that song?
