great twist to a classic

I really loved how Jill Schoelen was transported back to London! Very cool idea. Robert Englund was great as the phantom. The ending was also a nice twist as well when Jill returns back to modern times. I want to own this movie. I have seen it about three times.

It is one of the more favorable interpretations. It put Robert Englund on my top 10 list. Jill Shoeden (it is a 'd') was fairly good...the only other thing I've ever seen her in was Babes In Toyland...which I'm sure she's not too proud of. The only thing I didn't like about this version was the prostitute...was that really necissary?! Besides, the phantom never would have been unfaithful to Christine...even if he was 'imagining' it was her. I found that to be a horrible portrayal of Erik's personality and true love. Other than that, though, it was a very good movie.

I like this movie too, but I'm not keen on the scenes set in the present that book-end the story. Clearly, the producers didn't think that teen audiences would be interested in a film set in the 19th century, so they came up with the whole 'time travel' angle. I think the movie would have worked better without the modern-day prologue and epilogue.
