How did the Phantom die?

Richard arrives with the Inspector into the Phantom´s lair just in time Christine is almost cosumed by the Phantom´s evilness. The Phantom jump out of his organ and attacks Richard, he pull Richard into the candles and Richard is burnt down. Christine set the lair on fire, she get Richard´s gun on the floor and shoots the Phantom, he falls back and is consumed by the fire. The Inspector see through the fire as Christine despair in a sequence of confusion between a broken mirror and the Phantom´s face. Back to the Present, Christine finds out that the Phantom is still alive - a handsome man named Erik. Erik drags Christine to his cozy Manhattan apartment when he find out that Erik is Erik Destler - the Phantom of the Opera, Christine unmasks Erik´s false face and stabs him to death, she destorys his music and so the Phantom leaves the world forever. Or so Christine thought...
