That ending scene in the hospital always makes me tear up, and I've seen this movie a million times. (I will watch it every time I find it on.) maybe it's a little sappy, but families have kids every day without health insurance or the money to raise them. What I like about this scene is that it just captures a moment for this family when they're all together and celebrating a new baby (and new beginning for Helen and her family). We know they all have problems, but just for that one day, everyone is happy, healthy, and together. It's a beautiful moment. Grandpa Frank handing out cigars and putting one in Tod's mouth, showing he respects him as a man and part of his family. Rick Moranis' character learning how to play with Patty instead of constantly trying to make her some super smart prodigy. Grandpa hugging Cool tightly. Maybe Tod and Julie didn't make it, but with a family like that, maybe they did.
