What do you think happened to the characters next ?.

Anyone have any ideas?. Do you think Tod and Julie stayed together for a long time ?. Did things work out well for Larry when he moved away ?. Did Kevin become more confident ?. Did Cool have a happy life with his Grandparents ?.

Parenthood 2: The Next Generation. Ron Howard get on it!

I liked this movie a lot, until the end.
I know that Hollywood tended to make happy-ever-after endings back in the '80s.
But this was ridiculous! The fact that every single family had another baby made me NAUSEOUS!
They all magically have money & insurance & time & health to do this?!
Why would they even WANT to?

And no, I did not think Julie & Todd stayed together. Mrs. Buckman called it right when she said it didn't seem likely.
I thought that Susan & Nathan had some serious issues too, even after they 'made up'.
I could see Gil & his wife working it out.

Larry likely never returned again, and good riddance to that tool.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

With the exception of Todd and Julie, they all were comfortably middle class and all had jobs with benefits (remember Gil did go back to his old job), so I'm sure they all could afford another baby.

That ending scene in the hospital always makes me tear up, and I've seen this movie a million times. (I will watch it every time I find it on.) maybe it's a little sappy, but families have kids every day without health insurance or the money to raise them. What I like about this scene is that it just captures a moment for this family when they're all together and celebrating a new baby (and new beginning for Helen and her family). We know they all have problems, but just for that one day, everyone is happy, healthy, and together. It's a beautiful moment. Grandpa Frank handing out cigars and putting one in Tod's mouth, showing he respects him as a man and part of his family. Rick Moranis' character learning how to play with Patty instead of constantly trying to make her some super smart prodigy. Grandpa hugging Cool tightly. Maybe Tod and Julie didn't make it, but with a family like that, maybe they did.

Cool forces Patty into the porn industry, which Gary directs.

Gil's life continues to be a rollercoaster ride, where it has it's ups and his fourth child has the Downs.

Gil's other retarded son dies accidentally at age 12 when he sticks his head onto the conveyor belt visiting Larry at his new job as sub Vice President of some crappy little pencil sharpening company.

Julie follows in her step-father's footsteps and becomes a teacher, where she gets caught having an affair with one of her students. Todd divorces her but still lives with her mom.

Kevin spent his teenage years in and out of the nut house, before being convicted of murdering several people and getting sentenced to death.

- Gil got a higher paying job, but had to spend more time away from home, meaning he had to here Kevin coming out of the closet second hand from his wife. After Kevin came out, he started to be much more calm and relaxed and started to get past a lot of his issues.

- Julie and Tod break up, with both of them sharing custody of the baby. Tod was a ***** husband, but actually makes a pretty good father. He still spends time with Gary, as well on top of getting a job at the grandfather's company to support his child.

- Cool grew up happy and healthy with his grandparents, only hearing from his father again well after he graduated high school and went to college.

What actually happens next is a bunch of Libyan terrorists, that were perpetrated by Cowboy Dan that was paid to him with the tokens that the kid stole from Kevin, come into the room and shot everyone dead in cold blood, leaving NO SURVIVORS. I believe it's in the director's cut...

It seems that that Todd and Julie had a good relationship with their new child, Cool had no problem living with his grandparents, Larry probably never returned to see the family and was killed by other gamblers, and Kevin probably became a more confident person as he got older.

I think the idea of the film was to show that life goes on and there is no happy ending to tie up loose ends. You get some ideas as to what has happened at the end, but there will always be other things in the future to deal with.
