I don't understand why they couldn't just use the character Hulk Hogan instead of some other stage name character?? It doesn't make any sense, that's like saying I wanna go watch a Pee Wee Herman movie but instead of the trademark red bow tie, silver suit, instead we get a blue bow tie and a red suit and stage name is Barney MCfart??? Does that make any sense to you??? He is playing a wrestler in a movie but they couldn't just use his wrestling name from WWF??
I wonder if maybe the WWF owned the Hulk Hogan trademark in some form. Like, Terry Bollea could use the name for everyday life but not in a profitable movie or something? I just went and looked at movies featuring other wrestling stars, and they all have different character names in the movies. So, I'm not sure about this at all...but maybe he COULDN'T use the name Hulk Hogan in the movie?
I guess it was because Hulk Hogan, Hulkamania and Hulkster were Trademarks owned by Marvel Comics (because of the incredible Hulk and that's the reason why Marvel gets named on all old Hulk Hogan Merchandise, if you have those Hasbro action figures, the Trading Cards or anything else, look for it) so i guess they (Either the WWF or the Movie Company) had no interest in paying Marvel for those Trademarks and therefore changed the name. It's the same reason why he calls himself Terry "Hulk" Hogan in all the 90's movies and Thunder in Paradise.
Since then Hogan bought "his" name and the trademarks from Marvel, either in the late 90's or early 2000's.
Yeah, that's why they still called it the WWF, used the same ring announcer (Howard Finkel), and had Jesse Ventura and "Mean" Gene Okerlund play themselves.
well he did kill at least the evil boss in the movie, and i dont think he wanted that people could say that using his name, so therefore they used rip.
