...it all could've ended a half hour early if someone had simply called the cops. "Hello, police? I'd like to report an assault/attempted murder.". "Hello, police? I'd like to report a kidnapping.". Boom, done.

I know we really shouldn't expect too much logic from these kinds of films, but plot holes like this are insulting--even in a 1989 context.

We could say that about just about every movie ever made. Wouldnt make for much excitement though would it.
