Beautiful setting

Anyone else find the artwork and backgrounds in this film (the seaside town, the rural landscape on her journey etc) to be breathtaking. The artwork in all of studio ghibli's films are brilliant and in a stong way make you want to live in the film for the love of the landscapes shown but does anyone else find the setting in this film to be nicer than any other?

If i had to rank the films on the beauty of the setting my top favourites would be:
1) Kiki
2) Howls
3) Ponyo
4) Totoro

It's hard to rank his films for their beauty since they all rely so heavily on setting. I definitely think Spirited Away beats out both Ponyo and Totoro. Zeniba's house in particular was quite nice. I loved everything about that film; as near perfect as a movie can be. I do think Kiki probably has the nicest scenery though. That movie also has the most rewatchability in my mind. Always makes me happy. I just wish her journey to the town was longer - more places visited, things seen.

I agree, out of any movie I have ever seen, this film really makes me want to live in this world and this town, it's exactly something that I would love personally.

Just seen the film for the first time! Goodness me, the city scenes look like good old Stockholm's Gamla Stan (Old Town) whereas the walled city part near the beach is a version of Sweden's Gotland town Visby. Beautiful renderings in the background! One of the restaurants in the background has the name "Ryska Gården" which is an actual place in Visby with some unique decor from the 1700's still intact.

The tramway up the hill is reminicent of Gothenburg's Avenue in the town centre.

I live in Stockholm. I'll look out for Kiki, when I'm next out with the dog.

Nobody's perfect!

The setting in Castle in the Sky is marvelous as well. Especially the village in the beginning.
