Un-official Sequel- or Companion- to 'Can't Buy Me Love'

What do the rest of ya'll think....
Out of 'Patrick Dempsey's' Late-80's, early 90's teen-movie(s) career,
wouldn't you say - or agree, that these film kinda presents it-self,
or at least his character .... come off just, a little bit, like 'Ronald Miller' in "Can't Buy Love"(1987)?

I mean obviously both stories don't really parallel each other all that much, but they do kinda make great companions, to an imagined possible scenario to what life might've been like in college for both 'Cindy' and 'Ronnie' (Donald/Ronald) following the events from "Can't Buy Me Love".....like the college years.

Another great 'Patrick Dempsey' film, is: "MEATBALLS 3" (1986-7),
where he plays yet another (initially-geek to chic)nerdy character named RUDY
and the love story "Happy Together"(1990), co-starring 'HELEN SLATER' (Supergirl,Secret of my Success).

id put it as a trilogy:

cant buy me love (high school)
loverboy (summer job)
happy together (college)

haha.

I'll go with this... anythings better than calling that piece of sh*t Love Don't Cost A Thing the "companion" to Can't Buy Me Love. I always considered these two Dempsey movies like an un-official sequel.

I have to agree with you on what you are saying that Loverboy is a unofficial sequel to Can't Buy Me Love! I cannot stand that crappy sequel Love Don't Cost A Thing! That was awful for a remake of a classic 80's movie!

I didn't see it as a sequel. It was more a typecast. Cute movie.

Yes it was a cute movie all right to watch! I enjoyed watching it when it came out. I wanted to go see it at the movie theater and instead I got to watch it on VHS when it came out. Now that I do think about it and I do not mean to flip flop about my answers. It was not a sequel to Can't Buy Me Love. They had a lot of great actresses in this film like Carrie Fisher, Christie Alley, and Rebecca Holden who I remember from Knight Rider and thought she was more attractive than the actress who played Bonnie. Do not get me wrong the actress who played Bonnie was beautiful, but I was more appealed to Rebecca Holden playing April on Knight Rider.

I always liked this movie and own it on dvd the same with Can't Buy Me Love.

I liked both of these films as well myself! I still felt though that the director missed his window of opportunity though. What I mean is if I was the director I would have had a few of the hot looking ladies in the film that Patrick Dempsey character was sleeping with get topless at least. I mean the title Loverboy explains itself!

I think the movies were made for a younger teens. Boobs are nice to see in movies but not all movies.

When this film came out in 1989 I was 17 years old. Yes I understand on what you are saying but still if you are going to use a lot of beautiful women in a film like Loverboy then what is wrong with a little topless nudity? I understand that they wanted to go for the 13 year olds and possibly in the teenage years.

I agree. Topless is not needed to make a girl sexy.
