Running over the bike

Why is the father punishing the son for leaving his bike in the driveway? Did the father not pass Driver's Ed? Is he too stupid to know that you're supposed to look behind you when you're backing up? It was his fault, not his son's fault. I hate when I see that. What if a neighbor's child had been standing there instead of the bike? You just ran over a kid because you weren't paying attention.

Lay a kids bike down behind a car and tell me if you can see it from the driver seat

Right! I suspect the OP is a kid. ;) Like parents say, "This is why you can't have nice things." LOL

It's the driver's responsibility to make sure that the path is clear. If he can't see the path from inside the car he has to check the driveway before getting into it. There is absolutely no excuse for running over something, even if someone else puts it there. It's always the result of negligence on the driver's part.

You are so completely full of *beep* He has no reasonable expectation that someone could have left a bike on the ground directly behind his car.

Even if that were true, which it isn't, people are still allowed to get mad about things being left in the path of their vehicle. Even if he's legally responsible, that's entirely irrelevant to his emotional reaction.

in a perfect world it wouldn't of happened, I have been driving 15 years, and yes I always check my mirrors backing out..but how often does one go around their car??? to look at the back, not often! Especially, if you are 15 minutes late to work like his dad was in the movie

A couple reasons. First, he's the one that bought the bike. Second, he's mad that Brian is irresponsible with his possessions.

Did the father not pass Driver's Ed? Is he too stupid to know that you're supposed to look behind you when you're backing up?

So he should reasonably expect that his son would just leave his bike laying directly behind the car every morning? Have you ever driven? He couldn't see the bike because it was DIRECTLY behind the car.

What if a neighbor's child had been standing there instead of the bike?

If you stand in the blind spot of a car when it's backing up, it's your own fault. Fortunately, most humans have the sense to get out of the way when they see a car backing up. Bikes, being inanimate objects don't have that ability.
