Was boy wearing someones skin?
or was he mutating from the inside out?
shareThat always creeped me out and I never understood his importance. They should have went into more detail on Boy and why Snik is so protective of him. Was he Snik's human friend that got trapped and turned into a monster? Confusing.
the force is strong in this one
It's not confusing at all. Boy is the "King" of the monsters and Snik is his personal body guard.

Is that what happens when Snik tears your head off? Like he did to Arnold.
What if Arnold's head went to a place where other kid's heads and body parts are; if you look at some of the other monsters: one has a porcelain doll head, some have stuffed animal heads, Arnold got a pumpkin, some have arms/bodies that are stuffed animal parts. As Boy wears the skin out/gets damaged, he replaces them with the parts Snik collects to maintain his childlike appearance as he lures other kids into the world.
Since Arnold still looked like a little boy, a some point, he could use Arnold's face. (Boy with blonde hair?)
That's a really good theory!!
shareOf the comments remaining--some of the removed ones may have addressed it--yours is the only one which mentions this horrific scene!
I completely agree with this YouTube user: one of the most disturbing, messed-up moments to be witnessed in any movie! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vzue5duL-gw
Just watched for the first time since the theater in 1989, after thinking I probably never would again.
What I remembered: the general appearance of the kid being threatened by the horrible monster and the kid's name--though I remembered it as Arnie rather than Arnold.
What I forgot: the reference to not doing the chief monster, Boy, a favor, and Arnold complaining that he tried but his knees hurt--clearly a reference to some sexual abuse I either missed at the time or forgot. Also didn't remember all the painful abuses inflicted before the actual head-ripping.
What I remember starkly and clearly is the monster ripping off Arnold's head and tossing it in a basket--horrifying even without blood. I didn't remember the other object, pumpkin or mini monster head or whatever it was supposed to be, placed on Arnold's body and then the body running away. One of the worst movie scenes ever! Seriously can't believe it appeared in a kids' movie. Probably was responsible for many nightmares!
