What a gross and repellent film

I remember seeing this when I was about 9 or 10 on HBO really enjoying it but recently revisted it on vhs and man was this a creepy and repellent little film. The whole underworld is dark and gross, the monsters all seem to be disfigured, one had brain matter sticking out the back of his head, Howie Mandell urinates into an apple juice bottle while the kid drinks it at school, it's a really creepy distasteful little film.

Remember too that at 11 years old, kids are making all kinds of fart and toilet jokes. Just look at Captain Underpants. They don't mean anything by it; they're just discovering and finding out what's acceptable. The language and reference to Playboy was surprising, but I'd say this is just right for the target audience.

lol this movie was entertaining and amusing.
wtf is so repellent about it? it's not lame like the crap they're throwing out there nowadays.

reply

I agree. It's not as bad as a lot of the brainless dribble they have nowadays.

get over yourself and just shut up man.

"Anthony Michael Hall is confirmed to play Harley Quinn. Get over it and move on."

reply

It's a film about monsters who scare and prank children.

What do you expect, really? An Oscar winning script?

"It's hard to say no to Yoo-Hoo. The name literally beckons."

I find anything on Disney Channel or Nickelodeon these days more repellent than this little gem...

"What? do you wanna just sit around and be wrong?" - Liz Lemon

I find the mean spiritedness of the film the most repellent thing....

Do the *beep* snow angel, Dude!, Do the *beep* snow angel!

reply

The "mean spiritedness" is a central part of the film's themes. Films like this allow youngsters a healthy outlet to satisfy their mischievous fantasies. It's a lot better than "kid's" films today, which are unbelievably sanitized and politically correct...

reply

Comparing it to films on the opposite extreme doesn't really say anything good about it though. The movie is still pretty unpleasant.

Well my sister and I watched (and loved) "Little Monsters" when we were 10 and 12 back in 1989........and we turned out ok. lol

I'll take the imaginative and creative family films of the 80's over almost any of the nonsense they roll out these days.

Sounds like you should stick to Sesame Street.
