At the end... (spoilers)
Was the creature that attacked them on the surface the same one that was after Beck in the shack? I don't think so. He pretty much crushed that when he was leaving on the diving platform. I think the one that attacked them was the Sixpack/Bowman hybrid that they dumped out of the airlock earlier in the picture.
