I've often seen that comparison made in relation to this film and its pretty unfair. I think Leviathan has more in common with "The Thing" than it does "Alien". I also liked this better than the other underwater monster picture of the time "Deep Star Six".

I agree, it definitely has more in common with The Thing, except the black guy lived in The Thing at the end of the movie. Even tho, if you played the sequel video game you know Childs actually ended up dying in The Thing.

It's a BLATANT alien ripoff with elements of The Thing tossed in. They just put it underwater instead of in space.
