Miyagi is the worst friend anyone could ask for

The guy has an affair with his best friend's fiancee and then flees the country leaving them both dishonored. Then he refuses his so-called friend any chance of regaining said honor. He leaves the girl he supposedly loved much worse off than before. Her reputation is in tatters at this point.

Supposedly teaches Daniel karate so he can learn to solve his own problems, yet his dependence on him just grows to questionable levels. Later, he refuses to to train Daniel for the 85 All-Valley. Shouldn't that be Daniel's decision as to whether or not he fights? That was manipulation at its finest. Daniel would fight how, who, and where Miyagi told him to fight. Daniel also pretty much agreed to work in the bonsai shop for free. Do you know who else works for free? Slaves.

Let's delve deeper into Miyagi's ultimate plan for Daniel.

First he teaches him karate. Daniel is one of the few outside of the Miyagi family to learn their karate. Miyagi saw the makings of someone he could control. Miyagi is getting old and won't be able to fight forever. However, Daniel knows six moves at best.

The second thing he did was trick Daniel into giving him his college money for his bonsai store. Nobody seriously thought Daniel was college material did they? You may think this was Daniel's decision, it wasn't. Miyagi conditioned him into handing over the dough. More devious is that it's at Miyagi's behest that Daniel's name be on the lease too. The store is just a front.

Third, Miyagi deliberately sends Daniel over to the store where Jessica is. Notice his reaction to meeting Jessica Andrews is not the typical red-blooded male reaction. All he can think about is how Mr. Miyagi will react when he hears. Miyagi has planted the puppet strings on Daniel. It's now all about what Mr. Miyagi will think.

Miyagi-Daniel is more like a Don King-boxer relationship. Miyagi would borrow against the bonsai store's credit to set-up an underground fighting ring, put Daniel in a bunch of overhyped/rigged matches, and then keep all the money for it. After all "win lose no matter". It sure doesn't as long as the spread is covered!

Daniel never thinks for himself. Getting him to sign over power of attorney would be easy. Miyagi would flee town with all the money and stick Daniel with the bill to the bank for the debt on the store. All Daniel would be left with is debt.

Hmmm, interesting. Let's have a look.

Supposedly teaches Daniel karate so he can learn to solve his own problems, yet his dependence on him just grows to questionable levels.

Siver does that to Daniel also.

Shouldn't that be Daniel's decision as to whether or not he fights? That was manipulation at its finest

Silver does that also.

Daniel also pretty much agreed to work in the bonsai shop for free. Do you know who else works for free? Slaves.

And volunteers.

First he teaches him karate. Daniel is one of the few outside of the Miyagi family to learn their karate. Miyagi saw the makings of someone he could control.

A little bit of tweeking here:

Silver teaches him QuickSilver. Daniel is one of the few outside of the Cobra Kai Dojo (Barnes being another) to learn their karate. Silver saw the makings of someone he could control.

More tweeking:

Silver/Barnes is more like a Don King-boxer relationship. Silver would use his millions to set-up an underground fighting ring, put Barnes in a bunch of overhyped/rigged matches, and then keep all the money for it. After all "win lose no matter". It sure doesn't as long as the spread is covered!

And a bit more:

Billionaire industrialist with few friends do not take interest in young teens for wholesome reasons.

There you go 

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

reply

Ehh, Barnes was just a hired gun, no more. A well rewarded one at that, provided he was successful. This was purely about Daniel and Miyagi.

Silver disposed of that worthless Barnes shortly after his failure to get one measly point. Dynatox Industries does not tolerate failure!

reply

Are you people actually watching the film????? Barnes does get points you idiot, th idea silver has is

To barnes " first you win a point, then you lose a point, keep the score zero zero so daniel gets battered basically." Silver wants daniel to feel pain - go back & watch the film properly this time - jesus & pay attention this time.

The OP does not mention anything along the lines of "Miyagi does this, but Silver doesn't". For this reason, why have you posted with a "Silver does the same thing" response. What does Miyagi's behaviour have to do with Silver?

Furthermore, your response shows ignorance on your part. Are you not able to comprehend the clear difference between Miyagi and Silver's relationship with Daniel? Miyagi is supposed to be Daniel's best friend. Terry Silver is a sworn enemy, hell bent on revenge.

Why do you therefore seek solace knowing there is an equal balance between both relationships, when they are both supposed to have diffrent motives? Are you someone who expects the same behaviour from both your friends and your enemies?

What is that thing you're using?.... It's technical.

reply

I'm not the one painting anyone whiter than white which is what you chimps attempt to do with Silver. I'm simply pointing out the double standards of you guys.
Clear enough for you?

If those pen pushers up at city hall don't like it,well, they swivel on this middle digit!

reply

Oh I see. Youre unable to be the bigger man, the adult, in all this and see fit to hijack people's threads with digressions into unrelated matters in order to generate annoyance.

So you're a troll basically.

reply

The OP is a known Silver supporter who makes posts questioning others morals. Me pointing that out doesn't make me a troll. Now sneakily reply instead of directly replying to me if you must.

If those pen pushers up at city hall don't like it,well, they swivel on this middle digit!

reply

So you scan the OP's behaviour in other posts and bring your serving of counter attacks into threads where it is not needed?

Isn't this about being an adult male who can go beyond such pettiness and make intellectual posts related to the topic at hand. Not childish comparisons to get one up.

Did you at any point consider going on a dissection rampage of the OPs post and addressing each point without referring to a contrasting counterpart that makes zero sense.

reply

I don't forget that. In fact it goes to show the depth of his manipulation even more. Anyways, the comparison was for s h its and giggles.

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

reply

YOU'RE for sh i ts and giggles. STFU. You don't HAVE TO respond to EVERY POST, BOZO!

I'm sure we can all do without such comments. They only serve to agitate people. After all, it's bad enough when clowns like huntleydevonte-1/chuckyfan201 come on here looking to agitate people without prominent posters such as yourself doing the same.

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

F%#k you marshmallow! Danielle and his manipulative teacher were the true villains of this picture. Evil won, in the real world it would have been the other way around. COBRA KAI!! NEVER DIE!!!

 👺 (Miyagi)

Excellent post. Not much to add. Agree with everything.

IMO, it doesn't matter that writer's intention wasn't to make him look like the worst friend ever, what counts is execution, and that turned Daniel into Miaygi's b!tch literally and figuratively. he couldn't wipe his ass without Miyagi's help because Miyagi conditioned him to feel powerless without him.

It's a fascinating study how friendships go wrong when "friends" aren't matched intellectually or on any other level. There's over-domination (Miyagi) and over-submission (Daniel).

College money takeover was most brutal thing ever.

reply

As for Daniel squandering his college money, he did that on his OWN accord. Miyagi didn't force him. He even expressed disbelief for stupidly making this egg-brained decision. Miyagi truly DID want to help him...by trying to help him to help himself...by going to college...abandoning karate which he sucked at...to hang out with people his age.

By the time dummy Daniel purchased the first and last months rent for useless bonsai shop, Miyagi clearly saw what damaged goods Daniel was. Miyagi then said "aw screw it, there's no helping this sad sack."

I would've loved to see Miyagi bury the hatchet with Kreese, and secretly conspire with Cobra Kai to permanently get Danny off his case. Then, he would build CK the most badass dojo with a stained wooden deck, shoji door panels and koi fish ponds.

reply

But who would sand the floor?

reply

Miyagi manipulated Daniel to do it. By that time, Daniel realized he couldn't do anything without Miyagi who made Daniel dependent of him. If Miyagi was a good friend, he would make Daniel to go to college and live on his own. Hell, he would have show him how to be independent. No moving in together. No going to Okinawa together. No staying together while mom's in Fresno. Send him to fresno. Old fart manipulated Daniel into total dependence.

reply

Miyagi persuaded him about the tournament. He could have done the same about going back to college. It would not have been too difficult.

reply

So this! Excellent! Yep, if he could persuade about tournament how come his power of persuasion didn't work about college money? Yep, manipulative pr!ck.

reply

How did he persuade him about the tournament? Daniel entered anyway. If anything Silver, Kreese and Barnes persuaded Miyagi to train Daniel in the end. But, they could have done a runner just like Miyagi did when he was 18.

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

reply

[deleted]

Yeah for the first movie and to stop him getting further beatings, but not for the third movie. Rather than forcing him to do something he didn't want to do, he saved him another arse kicking there and then in the Kai dojo.

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

reply

[deleted]

He could have saved him several by doing his usual stunt and doing a runner.

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

reply

[deleted]

Yep. Miyagi should have just said 'Bollox to them, you no enter Daniel san. we go fishing'.

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

reply

You know...Bollocks!
Last time I typed it though it was censored.

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

reply

[deleted]

Like I said, last time I typed it, it got censored so I tried it that way and it worked. Turns out Bollocks isn't censored now anyway.

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

reply

I would have loved to see that! Myagi would be fed up with what a tubby, whining b#%ch Daneille had become, and joins forces with Kreese and the incredible Mr. Silver. Myagi would be so thankful for having some USEFUL friends for a change and Silver always takes care of his friends.

reply

I wonder what happened after this whole fiasco. Did Daniel go to college or moved in with his mother? Did the bonsai tree close shop?

reply

Daniel could not mind his own business and went after Mike Barnes to gloat about his win. Mr. Miyagi got tired of saving Daniel's life so he let Mike, Kreese, and Terry Silver work him over as a lesson.

reply

and his claim that 'karate only mean something' if you fight for a bonsai plant's pot seems rather dubious.

Alright, I have to ask now... have these boards simply been taken over by people who barely watched these films, or just generally dislike them, so go out of their way to insult them, and the characters? It seems that almost every post I have been reading for these films has been either negative about Daniel or Miyagi, or just generally about the film. Even the hypothetical sequel thread is full of apparent contempt for the characters. Daniel was not that bad, nor was Miyagi, though the third film is really quite bad, and as others have said, seems to ignore any of the characters development from the first two. I tend to be among those whom prefers to ignore the third, and imagine a different chain of events after the second film.

Why do you people seem to have such a confused brain over this - ive explained this on all 3 karati kid boards about 6 times now.

"Miyagi loved the japanese girl, sato was his best friend - it was then decided that the girl maygi loved (who also loved him) had been arranged to marry sato & she didnt love Sato - she loved miyagi!! Sato challenged Miyagi to a fight for the girl to which Miyagi said no because it was his best friend. He left because he didnt want to see the girl he loved marry his friend - thats it!!

Whats so complicated about that, about 15 people keep saying that Mayagi is bad cos he cheated his best friend etc, stole the girl etc = NO HE DIDNT FOR *beep* SAKE!!!!

GO BACK & WATCH THE BLOODY FILMS & PAY ATTENTION THIS TIME.

reply

If he cared so much, why didn't he take the girl he allegedly loved so much with him?

reply

To quote kellymariekitty 'have you watched these movies'?
Miyagi mistakenly believed she would go ahead with her marriage to Sato. When he found out years later that she hadn't he says clearly to her that he should have taken her with him.
He messed up, clear enough?

You're old enough to kill, but not for voting....

reply

That's something he could have deduced with simple logic. Mr. Sato is an alpha male. No way would he take back a girl who cucked and made a fool of him with his best friend. He was through with her once that happened.

KK2 is probably the least re-watchable of the movies. Especially when you learn it wasn't actually filmed in Okinawa. They filmed it in Hawaii. Although Chozen is one of my favorite characters in the series.

But then Sato never married, so maybe he was in to men.

I don't know. I had such high hopesz for 3 but ended up severely disappointed.

You had high hopes for this movie? You've got to be the only one who's ever said that. I think the rest of us thought, "Oh, another Karate Kid movie? What depths have they plumbed this time? I guess I'll find out when it's on HBO in 6 months."

reply

I thought the first was ok and part 3 was (it seemed) going back to the same territory. Part 2 tried to expand Miyagis story, but did a piss poor job. Hence I had hopes for part 3.
Boy was I wrong about that.

reply

Because she was arranged to be married to somebody else & in that culture you cant disobey tradition - they are really into all that - trust me my brother dated a Vietnamese girl, a chinese girl & a Malysian girl & trust me they are all culture, tradition etc not to mention the fact 100% gold digging whack jobs who are totally *beep* in the head!!

Do not date these girls they are disgusting gold digging thieves who try & control men. My brothers ex used to say to him 'When i click my fingers you do it, no argument' and she used to make him pay for everything & one of the others practically stole all his money & took him for everything!! Eurgh *beep* crazy bitches who i never want to meet ever again!!
