A Waste of Some Very Good Actors
What more can I say?
shareI completely agree...
shareThis movie is an antithesis of "Amadeus." The script of Amadeus was so good, it didn't need famous 'stars' to draw a huge audience. But the plot and the screenplay of January Man were so bad, even the actors like Kevin Kline, Susan Sarandon, Harvey Keitel (believe me, I like them all) couldn't save the movie. Finding a butchered line from Shaw's "Candida," former NYC mayor, Ed Koch's catch phrase and Smothers Brothers' shtick in one movie ain't a good sign...
shareI agree. The movie had no redeeming elements other the suspense of a serial killer and some seasoned actors to keep the story moving along. Mixing comedy with mystery is difficult and 'January Man' doesn't quite make it even with some above par acting.
shareThey have all appeared in worse. However, you can't help but laugh out loud at some of the things that Rod Steiger says.
"It's so hard having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache." - Dr. Frank-N-Furter
I've just seen it. Pretty bad movie, one has to wonder if the script was fubar'd at some point since the screenwriter John Patrick Shanley is pretty good.
I love all the actors in this, but the writer(s) just did not care about the mystery, or solving anything.
The 80's was great for trashy movies, but it wasted some great talent too.
and whats that meant to mean Externalt lol, the 80s was great for trashy movies, but it wasted some great talent also??
shareI completely disagree. The movie is one of my favorites - especially the scene in the mayor's office between Rod Steiger and Danny Aiello!
shareI love this movie! I just watched it again and I can't count how many times I've seen it. I love Kevin Kline in this movie and his character is great. And Alan Rickman! He's hysterical! Could anyone say the word "languish" like he did?
Rod Steiger is a bit over the top, but I just choose to laugh at it. My one issue - what 2 men would fight over homely Susan Sarandon? Great actress, ugly as hell. Can never understand why they cast her in roles where men are supposed to be crazy about her.
You're the odd one out on both opinions it seems. Most would agree this movie was godawful and be baffled by your love for it. And most would agree Susan is gorgeous - she even holds up well today for her age!
