I don't think it's better than Raiders, which is damn near perfect, but Crusade is a very good film, certainly the second best in that franchise.

WTF IS A CHRIS STUCKMAN...SOUNDS TERRIBLE.🤔

I didn’t know if TLC is ‘better’ than Raiders, but I prefer it by some margin.

Connery and Ford are amazing, Elsa is smoking hot and her twist is great, the three tests are fantastic (the leap of faith might be the best moment in an Indy film), Marcus is hilarious. Too many things to list.

Meanwhile, Raiders is brilliant but has some notable shortcomings - Indy doesn’t achieve anything, the Nazis open the Ark and their heads melt, this would have happened whether Indy existed or not 🤷🏻‍♂️ The boat and submarine stuff kinda drags, Indy’s character is less developed, his escape from the snake pit is a bit too easy - kick a statue and it breaks open a wall at the bottom of a mountain.

Point is that if you’re going to nitpic Indy films, Raiders hardly comes up shining.

Temple is my favourite.

reply

I’m glad Temple is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Compared to today’s popcorn movies it’s a masterpiece. Compared to Crystal Skull it’s Citizen Kane.

Never understood the hate.

I agree with you. Raiders is great but at times feels like a film where Spielberg was still perfecting his craft.

Crusade feels like a more polished movie, has an artifact that's every bit as good as the Ark, has Sean Connery, has Elsa, has some great comedy, and is overall just a really fun adventure.

I love the entire original trilogy, but much in the way that I hold Fellowship of the Ring above its companions, Crusade will also hold a special place in my heart.

Indy brought the Ark home to the U.S. and kept it out of Hitler's hands - which was his mission, so he absolutely achieved what he set out to do.

Part of the plot was the back and forth between Indy and the Nazis possessing and then repossessing the Ark. Yes, the Nazis got melted because they reacquired for the last time. If Indy wasn't there, the Ark would have remained in Nazi hands as the opening ceremony on that island was known about in Berlin. The Germans would have again reacquired the Ark when they went to the island to see what happened. Seeing the exploded and melted bodies strewn around, they would have known the Ark had great power.

If the Nazis didn't get the Ark back from Indy and open it, maybe the U.S. feds or even Indy himself would have gotten melted.

Even better if Hitler gets ahold of it and opens it, only to have his head melted until all that’s left of him is a smoking moustache. Goebbels and the rest of his high command would also have been melted, electro-blasted or had their heads explode Belloq style. The Ark seemed to have a particular disdain for Nazis.

Indy prevented the annihilation of the Third Reich 🤦🏻‍♂️

He is correct. Sean Connery and the levity takes it beyond trotla.

I read that as Travolta.

reply

Lol The Raiders of the lost Ark which is excellent. I just find The Last Crusade to be more entertaining, funny and with more heart.

reply

I actually have to agree with him on that because I've always liked "Crusade" the best out of the Indiana Jones movies.

reply

The grail doesn't compare to the Ark. The grail is "King Arthur mythos", while the Ark is Jewish. Marion/Karen Allen is way better than the female lead in Crusade as well.

Who really gives a shit what that pseudo-critic says?

RETURN OF THE LARGE ASS?🤔
