RIP cinematographer Douglas Slocombe
He did great work on the first three Indiana Jones films. Got an Oscar nomination for Raiders.

shareThe thing that always struck me about Slocombe's work on the these movies is that it looked like they were shot by different cinematographers. Raiders is the best, as the colors are the warmest and the most natural of the three movies. Temple of Doom is so starkly different it's astonishing, although I assume this was done deliberately. Take the beginning, in the nightclub (the Obi Wan Club for those who never noticed), where the color contrast is very stark. I assume this was done as a way of giving it a kind of color B&W effect. Last Crusade went back to the more natural color of Raiders, but the photography was not as filtered and soft. And the third one had a lot more CGI which didn't help much.
