It looked dreay weather-wise, but the walk of fame looked legit!

Los Angeles for sure. I think in the scene with Brand's old publisher, they show the building's address, so that could probably be nailed down. I'd like to know where the bookstore was.

but the front of it looks like it would be in a business area.

I think they used two different locations for the Book store.
the front looks like a very business district, business buildings up and down the street. the ending shot of Virginia and Richard standing at the broken window looking at the back parking lot looks very residential, seeing apartments and houses all around the building, to the side and across the street.
I wonder where the book store is too! and Virginias Apartment building as she walks up the steps!
Probably indeed Los Angeles. I mean, dreary weather is basically what we get in the winter, and even though LA's known for it's sunshine, we DO get cold and rainy during the winter. Maybe not to the frigidness of the Mid-west or East coast, but enough that you see Los Angelinos donning winter wear. The Virginia's coat and gloves aren't that far-fetched as far as attire goes. Hell, right now we are in a small heat blast, but prior, we hit record cold and I seen people bundled up MORE than Virginia, especially in November(seemingly it's going to get cold again and we are going to get pummeled by storms).
