How small were they exactly?

This is something that I wondered recently. Were they so small that they were microscopic? The reason I ask is because they befriend an ant and ants are really tiny. However, the ant was bigger than the kids were, so I am not sure how small they were. What do you think?

All I need is one mic...

Nick says at one point that they are 1/4 of an inch tall.

Their ratio to other objects wasn't consistent. For example, if they were big enough to use Cheerios as innertubes, then they would have not been that small compared to the ant.

also they could fit inside those lego block tubes

Nick did say they were a quarter of an inch tall at one point in the movie, but that might have just been his estimate.

If someone wanted to determine how small they actually were, the Lego brick would be a good reference point as they are made in standard sizes (http://www.robertcailliau.eu/Lego/Dimensions/zMeasurements-en.xhtml)

As for the ant, it might have been a carpenter ant. They range from about 1/4 inch to 1 inch long (about 2.5cm) just large enough to carry all four of our protagonists on its back.

I used the screws that had fallen to the floor to guess how equivalent they were...
