Scale?

What would the scale be for the kids, 1:64?

I find the scale isn't reliable, especially when they are riding the ant. If you think of a regular common ant, it's pretty tiny. Imagine Nick riding on one of those. Then imagine Nick using a cheerio as a lifesaver. The scale isn't consistent. It's true they could have been riding on one of those giant ants, but I was just using that as one of the many examples.

Another (of many) scale inconsistencies -- when the group gets out of the garbage bag and begins to make their way across the backyard, they run into a dinosaur toy. This is all fine and dandy, but the grass is quite a bit taller than the toy. Considering the length of the grass, the toy would be all of an inch or inch and a half tall.

Watching HISTKs in HD on Cinemax right now, it's also evident that the green-screen tech was a bit less sophisticated. In numerous scenes now, you can clearly see a green outline around the characters, bugs, etc. Distracting, but it's from 1989, so I can't complain.

I was just thinking, they should have tried the sidewalk, since the garbage was right there.

I woulda been here earlier, but I was thinking up that "ham on rye" line.

As Wayne is eating the cheerios, he comments that traversing the backyard at their size would be like traveling 10 miles. I saw this as a way of indicating Nick grossly miscalculated and also makes it more impressive that they were able to travel all that way. (10 miles on that "terrain" would be quite difficult.)

there is no indication of the company or model of the dinosaur toy. why couldn't a dinosaur toy be tiny (and, thus, be the proper size to appear small compared to the surrounding grass)? i recall from my youth many miniature-sized animals and people, maybe even a dinosaur.

Also the cigarette butt seemed to be slightly bigger than the ant which would make the ant huge

You can make the best scale with the LEGO cube they slept in.

The kid Nick said 1/4 of an inch in the movie
