Question Re: Tommy Smalls . ..

Was Tommy skimming from Bugsy Calhoune? That question is never answered - all we know is Tommy gets accused of it, denies it, but Cantone kills him for it anyway. It seems like an overly complicated set-up just for the minor payoff of watching Quick evade a distraught Arsenio Hall.

Also, why did Domenique LaRoue sleep with Quick before attempting to kill him? It was totally unnecessary. And the answer isn't an obvious "because she was attracted to him," because Bugsy was the one who suggested she do it. Bugsy could just as easily have had someone waiting in Domenique's apartment to snuff out Quick when he walked in, or had Domenique shoot him once they got into bed. That whole sub-plot makes no sense. A funny thing about that scene, if you notice: when Domenique tries to reach under her pillow for her gun, it's just the same shot edited in twice to make it look like she made two attempts.

I believe she slept with him to put him completely at ease in addition to her actually being attracted to him. Calhoun asked her if she liked Quick, and she responded she did. THEN Calhoun suggested she sleep with him en route to killing him. As many horror films show us, intimacy is the time when a person is most vulnerable. Quick knew Calhoun may have wanted him dead by this point, so he would have been looking for someone to be hiding in Dominique's apartment.

Calhoun knew the only possible way to kill Quick would be for his defenses to be lowered-- and even then he failed.
