good movie; under-rated
the jokes coulda shoulda been written better; weak script.
shareIt wasn't a perfect movie, but it was better than people give it credit for, and the costumes were amazing.
shareI think the costumes were some of the best I have ever seen in a movie. it should have won that award. And i agree that it was better than most people give it dredit for. Just entire Sunshine seducing that numbers pickup guy was worth paid admission.
shareI must agree with you regarding the costumes. The costumes in this film deserved an Oscar nomination. They were just stunning. Men and women's costuming alike.

Eddie not only wrote the screenplay but he directed it. Thats a lot to have on one's plate at one time. Since Eddie never did that before, I think he did a decent job. If he would collaberated with other writers and got another director, like Ted Demme, this could have been an all-time classic
shareThe movie was just entertaining. Sure it had flaws but I did care because I was entertained. Harlem Nights is a cult movie. When the movie came out 15 years ago, evryone at my school loved it.
shareI really enjoyed it.
"Nazis. I hate these guys."
-Indiana Jones
I have always enjoyed watching this film! I thought it was hilarious too. It would come on broadcast TV or HBO or whatever after it was released when I was younger and I would always stop and watch it! I never understood why so many people trash this flick.
shareAgreed. This is one of the most underrated comedies ever and it has developed a bit of a cult following. A ton of people and critics just don't get this film. I DO NOT understand why this film only gets a 5.1.
This is exactly why I NEVER listen to critics or read user reviews online when deciding whether or not to see a film.
Just some of the highlights:
Redd Foxx is priceless. I laughed hard at every one of his lines. It's amazingly unfortunate that he wasn't in many more films.
The Arsenio Hall scene was absolutely hilarious!
Danny Aiello and Michael Lerner are excellent.
I felt Eddie did a bang up job with writing and directing.
People must understand that this is a comedy and its sole purpose is to make us laugh. It clearly delivers. What more do people want from this film?
This isn't some boring period piece; it's a hilarious comedy.
If you want Citizen Kane, Netflix that crap.
This is pure comedy.
Maybe some of the bad reviews were racially motivated.
As a white guy, I absolutely loved "Harlem Nights" and have the DVD in my collection.
I hope the new generation of film goers will give it a chance.
Thank you.
