then why does he have a new york accent? american actors never seem to try and do regional accents in movies...

pretty sure it's not that "american actors never seem to try to do regional accents" because they usually do, it's just that christian slater isn't a particularly good actor and this movie wasn't particularly good. it just has a cult following because it deals with skateboarding.
