Are John and Dominic related?

I thought they were just neighbors, but they share a last name and apparently quite a history. Are they blood relatives?

Apparently I missed the part of the story where this was explained. If anyone could let me know, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

They're brothers. In the book it says that the mom had 11 children but only 5 living, which would be John, Dominic, Mick, Molly, and Katie.
