Jennifer Tilly

Hey,
Just wondering how long is Jennifer Tilly in this?
I've watched like the start and saw her doing the audition, but I missed the rest of the movie, just wondering coz if she isn't in it any more, there's no point hiring it out again!
luv Linda

Hey
My aunty onws it lol, so I watched the rest, Jen was really really cute lol, but I wouldnt buy it!

There are millions of people in this world...But in the end, it all comes down to one.

reply

Yeah, I grant her for being cute but I think her character was the most surreal part of this movie. Didn't get it all. Perhaps someone else should've played it. Sorry!

She has one other scene as a waitress to Jeff Bridges' character.

near the end, great scene too, because he ask her what time she "punches out" like he was going to ask her out. But then he stops, because, you know, he likes someone else......

all of my movies are listed under "Must See" because YOU must.

i wonder if there's some unwritten oscar rule about minimum screen time
necessary to qualify for a supporting actor/actress nomination

b/c in my opin jennifer tilly's performance in the fabulous baker boys
deserved to be recognized 'by the academy'

at the risk of sounding silly, i thought her performance was utterly magnificent - uniquely quirky, courageously 'open' that is 'innocent',
and yes, nuttily sexy - almost judy holiday-like now that i think of it and that's high praise indeed if i do say so myself

jtilly created - carved out - a really memorable 'person' and brought real
humanness to her in what could easily have been a standard 'move the story along' character

im biased here of course i find the entire film appealing in all aspects
but as good as all three leads were in their parts jennifer tilly in hers
shined just as bright if only onscreen as long as a shooting star in the nighttime sky

I don't believe there is a "minimum" screen time for a Best Supporting Actor/Actress nom. Remember Viola Davis was nominated last year for her single scene-stealing performance in "Doubt." Jennifer Tilly did do very well in her part.

I agree. She was sublime, especially during the cafe scene.

Well to me in this role Jennifer just continued her prior performances. To be honest with you I'm more or less undecisive whether or not she was good or bad (her character was so... something) but it was a role/character I've seen her do since the days of Hill Street Blues. Always the same smiling husky whispering voice etc. In the long run it's somewhat irritating.

Well said, or written I should say. I was curious re your query about minimum screen time. In the 1960's, I think Diane Cilento made some sort of record when she was nominated for Tom Jones and was on screen for all of about 5 minutes!
