Craptastic and Infinitely Watchable

I've probably seen this around 30 times. It's terrible, but I can never seem to stop watching it. Even at age 8, when I first saw this, I knew it was a bad movie. I would still watch it again today, though. In fact, I kind of want to.

The Nostalgia Factor is so intense, the hairstyles and clothing and set-design are so ridiculous, John Travolta demonstrating his Super Cool Americafying Powers™.

And I'm just the kinda guy that likes watching truly bad acting and production like some people enjoy watching those "Faces of Death" movies.

No, no, no... it is not terrible! It is the 'Citizen Kane' of comedic film compared to 'Scoop', a Woody Allen movie I watched recently on DVD. I have watched 'The Experts' several times and always enjoyed it - but I wait several years between viewings.
Recently I saw an Alias episode, 'Welcome to Liberty Village,' in which Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan are sent to a Russian town that looks just like modern suburbia. It also is populated by Russians who speak flawless English and live in the town so that they can be seamlessly integrated into American life.
Of course, being 'Alias,' there is a shoot-out in a car dealership that was very cleverly done - two suburban couples required to have a shoot-out to the death for ownership of a certain model car, with the losers being killed. The test was passed by Garner/Vartan, of course. It also was reminiscent of 'La Femme Nikita' in that they were discussing buying a car without knowing that the salesman would hand them guns to assemble (part of the test) without an warning that this was anything other than a routine transaction.
It was very entertaining but it made me want to watch 'The Experts' again. I watched it and was entertained all over again - there were some very funny lines in the movie that of course I had forgotten about.

It's well worth watching for the scenes with kelly Preston in them, especially the dance scene. She is incredibly hot in this movie. That being said, there aren't too many movies she is in,that she isn't hot.
Unfortunately she seems to want to shed the sexy image, cause she doesn't seem to be taking sexy parts anymore.Which is a shame cause she is still a very attractive and sexy woman.

John Travolta and Arye Gross were experts at making a horrendous movie.

reply

Travolta managed to get out of making bad films though!

Its that man again!!

reply

The best decision Travolta ever made was giving the time of day to an unknown director, and then deciding to appear in a shoestring-budget film like Pulp Fiction rather than the other movie Tarantino wanted him for: "From Dusk Till Dawn".

He then parlayed that into a rapid fire succession of $15-20 million paychecks. There were a few good movies within this several year period of money-grabbing, along with plenty of stinkers.

However, do not mistake the fact that he certainly never "got out of making bad films", and alas, he has returned to the B-list.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

reply

Uh.... two words, Battlefield Earth.

It's 80's cheese through and through, absolutely ridiculous no doubt but continues to amuse me in the year 2013. Go figure.

reply

I just saw it for the first time and I enjoyed it. Nothing special, but a simple lighthearted movie with a few laughs.

Cool.

reply

Yeah I'm another one who was probably seen this about 30 times!!!
