Spike Lee's Acting

So, I'm a film buff who decided to watch some of Spike Lee's work. This was where I started. Spike Lee's acting was terrible in this film, and he was the main character! I understand that he casts himself in a lot of his films. Does his acting get better?

I didn't really think he was that bad but he was in Malcolm X for a little while but I think he was pretty good.

Spike Lee usually cast himself out of necessity since his budgets were so low and schedules tight. It was easier and cheaper to cast himself. As his career progressed, his parts got smaller and smaller down to just cameos. He's only acted in one of his films in the past 15 years. He was never a great actor but I wouldn't call him terrible either. He kept it simple by basically playing versions of himself.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

Because he's not that good of an actor nor is he really trying to be. So he's not trying to play a wide range of characters and just be passably believable.

It seems to me that Buggin' Out ay have been a character better suited to Spike's "talents".🐭
