milo + otis
man, people are mentally passionate about this movie! a bit much if ya ask me (which no one did)...being called a stupid, ignorant American really ticked me off, just as it would if someone said "all japanese men have small genitals!" Sweeping generalizations just plain bug me! QUIT IT! As evidenced by all the other well-thought out arguments & postings, not all Americans are stupid & ignorant. Yer just a moron, no matter what your background or nationality!
ANYWAY. we cked this movie outta our local library for my 2 yr old. i never saw it as a kid, tho...we got it b/c we have a pug who looks just like Otis (the one pic-ed on the VCR box) plus my son loves cats & animals in gen'l. Well, we've re-newed the darned movie so many times, and paid enough late fees to fund the new addition to the library. I just purchased the DVD online today.
My son cannot see this movie enough! He wakes up asking to see it & begs to see it again, as the final credits are rolling. I have to limit the showings, or he'd watch it all day. He loves all the farm animals, especially the baby animals, he is entertained and thinks it's funny. Which it is.
I watch it often with him & I do think that kitty was thrown from the cliff & altho it was prolly big-time scared, he was a-ok. I was also concerned about the bear scene, but I too believe it was a trained bear & no harm came to the dog.
A side note: I do shop @ walmart b/c of their low prices & convenience of getting all in one place. I am not white trash or any of the other derogotory comments made of Walmart shoppers. I am a college-educated woman who is a stay @ home mom right now & lucky to have the luxury to do so.
I don't think this movie is, nor will have a negative impact on our son. We live on 50 wooded acres in the mtns with bears, racoons, owls who eat field mice to survive & we have a husky who won't stop chasing the deer & her babies. It's instinct & something about which my son needs to learn. It's not always pretty, but it's always about survival. He still loves our pets & so far, hasn't tried to hurl any of them off the mountain yet, so we're gonna keep this movie in our repertoire!
This is a sweet movie & I have no problem recommending it to other parents.
