That actually happened right? That wasn’t Michael J Fox having a dream was it? Or is it meant to be up for interpretation?

It actually happened, although the names were changed for the movie. Unfortunately, all of their sentences were drastically reduced with the two worst offenders being eligible for parole in merely four years, just as Capt. Hill told Eriksson in the movie.
