Sgt. Meserve vs. Sgt. Barnes (Platoon)

Two of the badest mofo's to hit the 'nam. I'd bet my money on Barnes if they got into a fight, but Meserve is one tough SOB. Who do you think would whoop ass?

You can almost think of them as the same character, Barnes being the same guy as Meserve after he gets out of the stockade and back to the jungle.

Well they were both major a-holes so I wouldn't mind seeing them both get fragged. But if I had to say who would win in a fist fight, I'd definitely go with Barnes. He's not only bigger & stronger than Penn's character but also seems tougher & more ruthless.

Agreed. Barnes is a hardened veteren who is physically fit and of course viciously psychotic. Merserve, though also full of explosive rage and violence, is still in many ways just a 20-year old kid lacking any of the true mental or emotional maturity to be able to stand up to someone like Barnes. He'd be able to intimidate his fellow squad members, but certainly not Barnes.

But when all is said and done, I think it's safe to say that both these men are cut from the very same cloth. They utterly lack any sort of concience, compassion, empathy or morality towards any of the innocent civilians who are also very much caught up in all the chaos, confusion and barbarity of a war which has enveloped their entire country and way of life.
