A better choice for the role of Sgt. Merserve IMO
An actor who I think would've been a more ideal choice for the role of Sgt. Merserve was/is Matt Dillon. First of all Dillon speaks with an authentic Northern accent, so there would've been no need for the sort of exaggerated one that Penn put(s) on in the film. I also think that Dillon would not have been as prone as Penn was to chewing up the scenery throughout every frame of the movie that he was featured in. And he just might have played Merserve in a more casual, restrained and subtle manner, which IMO would've made Merserve's eventual reveal as being a sadisticaly violent and utterly callous individual all the more of an unsettling and disturbing thing to bear witness to in the film.
Anyone else here also think that Matt Dillon would've possibly made a better Merserve than Sean Penn did?
