Eric Roberts fighting sytle

Does anyone know what style of karate Eric is using in the movie?

reply

I think it's Mauy Thai

It certainly doesn't resemble Karate.
I saw a little bit of Chinese Boxing and Kung Fu in some of his stances, so my guess is that someone thought up a style, that would go with the character the Roberts was playing, by mixing other styles together.

Sort of what Bruce Lee did a long time ago.

What I don't understand about this movie is why the Americans call themselves a "Karate Team" when they were going up against a Korean Taekwando team at a Taekwando tournament in Korea?

The match between Phillip and Simon was very impressive though.

reply

It doesnt resemble any form of martial ares becasue Eric Roberts is not a martial artis. The only person on the American team who had any prior martial arts training was Phillip Rhae. The moves Eric Roberts performed were akward and uncomfortable to him becase they did not come naturally to him, nor has he spent years upon years training.

Who really cares what Eric Roberts fighting style was, The final fight between Tommy and Dae Han is one of the best fights ever.I Mean they are real life brothers, who better to stage a fight then two ass kicking brothers.

reply

You are wrong about that Phillip Rhee is the only person that has any martial arts training. Late Cristopher Penn had a black belt in karate.

I disagree. The moves he was doing might have been unrealistic (in a real fight) and showy, but he looked pretty damn natural doing them.

Definitely not Muay Thai... nor any style I can recognize... maybe the closest is the fighting style of the "One Armed Swordsman"? Minus the sword of course.

If that is American Kickboxing, then I am a Broadway dancer.

Well, his opening style is definitely Karate Kid. :D

"Hail to the king, baby" :OD

I believe it's called No Can Do. It's a newer martial arts that is about 100 years old and has it's roots in Hollywood.

I think the styles used in the movie most closely resemble TKD or Kung Fun, with a little Hollywood thrown in.

I did some homework on this. It's definitely a more showy-version of a style from the Toshiba-Samsung eastern region called "NoOscarFoYoo". I thought Roberts portrayed it phenomenally.

do you guys no nothing all the moves taken from the arcade game street fighter it has been around a while and almost all americans know the moves.
