People need to let this movie go like the Reeve Superman.

Both are good movies that set the standard for superhero films. But they can't go back to the Burton Batman or the Donner Superman anymore these days. Time to move on.

It’s funny to read your post, I was just talking to a friend about how Miceal Keaton will always be Batman to me.
And at least to me. The Christopher Reeves Superman films may not be the best, but they are better than the ones today.

reply

Disagree. Superman II is THE BEST Superman movie to date, bar none. Christophe Reeve is the only serious actor to play Superman. Terrance Stamp, as General Zod, is the best antagonist actor that the Man of Steel has ever had. (Jesse Alexander? Gene Hackman? How about Groucho Marx?) Unlike any other Sups movie baddie, Stamp/Zod had testosterone up the wazzoo. Absent a GREAT antagonist, you have no story. “General, would you care to step outside?” I flat-out f*ing DEFY you to produce a single line from any superhero/comic book movie since that equals that simple, bold invitation.

All that [has followed] is sound and fury, signifying nothing.

If the Reeve Superman: The Movie and Superman II are not
THE BEST cinema interactions of the Superman (Nietzsche’s Ubermensche) saga, prithee, what is?

reply

Which Superman 2?

Richard Donner restored cut or Richard Lester cut? Lester was too stupid and campy especially the cellophane weapon.

reply

I've seen only the Lester version. I'm not that interested in the Richard Donnor cut. From what I've heard it gets rid of the Paris scene at the beginning and I like the Paris scene.

reply

I've got both, and whilst a few scenes are almost identical, they've both got enough differences to make them both worth it, for any mood you might be in.

reply

They actually paid homage to that line in the Supergirl show...

There was some evil female Kryptonian woman general and Supergirl used the old 'General, would you care to step outside' line...

reply

Actually, Aaron, that scene was on Legends of Tomorrow, the concluding episode of The CW’s four-part Crossover, Crisis On Earth X, which will always remain on my DVR; but it WAS Supergirl who called out her Fascist Earth X counterpart.

reply

THEY ARE THE BEST...THEY ARE ALSO HALF BAKED BORDER-LINE BAD FILMS.SO, ENJOY YOUR WIN?

reply

I have no intention of letting "Superman" and "Superman II" go! EVER!! As long as I have some means of watching those films I will!

Of course I have come to appreciate many other superhero movies, for all sorts of reasons, but I still hold those two films up as the gold standard of superhero movies.

reply

With the exception that the Reeves Superman films (well the first two) were actually good. This? Not so much, Michael Keaton was great....story was lame.

Need evidence? I present the BatDance.

reply

I absolutely hated this movie the first time I saw it in theaters the weekend it was released...hated it. I thought Keaton's Batman was fine but to me there was some questionable direction on Burtons part. The movie has grown on me over the years and I appreciate it more now for what is good but it is still not a great movie. The forced and out of place Prince soundtrack, the Vicky Vale plot thread, the idiot Bruce Wayne and yes the batdance all hurt this movie. I much prefer the Christopher Nolan grounded and gritty interpretation. And yes, to me Christopher Reeves will always be the definitive Superman.

reply

if we can't go back to the Donnor Superman in some form some way we will never have a good Superman movie again no way was Superman Returns a trying to return to the Donner Superman it still tried to be too dark too heavy for a Superman movie

reply

That's absurd. We had a good reimagining of Superman with Man of Steel but suddenly people become concerned with collateral damage so nothing interesting came later from it.

reply

OMG Superman killed Zod let's get triggered!

reply

we don't need a re imagined Superman unless they are doing Else world Movies

reply

Don't let nostalgia keep things stagnant. Everything could use an update.

reply

BATMAN ROCKS...SUPERMAN NOT SO MUCH...CHRISTOPHER REEVE WAS A TERRIBLE ACTOR.

reply

nice troll but he's still the best Superman we've had

reply

I AM NO TROLL...I OWN THE SUPERMAN FILMS...WATCHED THEM AS A CHILD AND HAVE GROWN UP WITH THEM...THEYRE DATED AND CHEESY.CHRISTOPHER REEVE IS STIFF,VANILLA AND BORING AND MARGOT KIDDER IS SOME KIND OF SWAMP RAT ON METH.

reply

that was later in life she hid it well in the superman movies do you have the Donner cuts?

reply

IM NOT SURE WHAT EDITIONS ARE ON MY CURRENT BLU RAY BOXSET.I HAVE SEEN THE DONNER CUTS IN THE PAST.SUPERMAN ALWAYS FEELS LIKE HE FLEW OUT OF THE 40'S IN HIS RAINBOW JAMMIES....CAUSE HE DID.ITS A DATED CHARACTER AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN A REEVE FAN,AS FOR KIDDER...EWWW..HAIL MARY FULL OF GRACE...I WILL CONCEDE THAT SUPERMAN AS A FILM WILL NEVER BE BETTER THAN THE REEVE FILMS.AS FLAWED AS I BELIEVE THEM TO BE.ITS A SHAME,THAT BRANDON ROUTH KID WAS A GOOD CASTING CHOICE,THEN THEY BUILT A FLUORESCANT TURD AROUND HIM.

reply

people act like Batman gets re imagined no he just get's closer to his comic book version Re imagined Batman would be a dirt poor Batman with a Bat suit made out of Garbage and the Joker would be him a alt ego so it look's like he's one step ahead of Batman I want a better Batman in the Batman movies one where he has to solve stuff using his brain and clues he finds not just feeding a computer the stuff and it analyzing it for him I want the Detective part put back in Batman

reply

You’ve got the brain damage

reply

Hardly. If anything I'm annoyed at the cult of complacency surrounding the Reeve films.

reply

We will never let this movie go...never!

reply

Burton Batman doesn't hold up over time, despite Nicholson and Keaton being great in their roles.

But Donner Superman will always be iconic. As long as you forget about Superman 3 and 4.
