They erased some parts!!!

I was watching this today, and noticed that when Charlie got run over, they erased his body!

I remember when I was younger that his broken body flails and falls into the water as he gets run over. they totally cut that out.
and I'm pretty sure his language was trimmed a bit too.
He says "blast" at one point on the dvd. which is so out of place with the way he talks up to that point.

yeah i just watched it for the first time in years last night and I thought something was missing from that scene, pretty lame to cut that out. does anyone know if they have the original cut on dvd anywhere?

reply

What's he supposed to say in place of "blast"? I don't remember where he says "blast".

I bought the DVD when I got rid of my VCR years ago, but I still have the VHS tape. But I don't necessarily remember seeing his body flying through the air when he was hit with the car. I just watched that scene seconds ago (I'm watching it now), and I would just as well assume that he gets run over and his body stays where it was hit while the car goes on...just like any other road kill.

reply

Nope, it doesn't make sense. Carface wanted it to look like an accident to whoever might've been looking, no one dragged Charlie's body in the water. And we ALL know that the scene we are talking about was cut. Let's hope someday a special DVD will be released (like Banjo recently) with the part RESTORED and put back in using digital editing. And "making of" would be nice too :)

I HATE when they cut parts out, especially if it's on DVD. What's the point of owning the dvd if you can't see more than what they show on television.

Any clue if the missing parts are available to watch onine???

reply

I haven't seen the DVD but I had this movie on VHS as a young child in the early to mid 90s. I distinctly remember Charlie flying into the water when the car hits him and I remember the nightmare scene being extremely frightening for young children (like I was), but also very intense and memorable. And I'm 99% sure that one of the demons did say something to him and grab a hold of him.

reply

They also bleeped out a word. During the scene where Charlie floats into the watch department in heaven, he says 'damn.' Which is something I didn't know until I heard it on the soundtrack.

As for seeing an uncut version of the movie, I wouldn't hold my breath. It sounds like the original cut is long gone.

reply

to be honest, I did own the VHS and yes I saw it, Charlie does fly into the water and yes the demon did say something to him, the demon said

"CHARLIE" In this creepy voice before grabbing him.

It's not on the DVD? That sucks big time.

Okay. I don't know if this was originally erased, but I noticed that part in the Montage where Anne-Marie was jealous about how the dogs won all of the money; her clothes were ripped, her shoes were erased and everything.

I still have the tape I got for my eighth birthday back in 1990...and I've never seen Charlie flying into the water after the car hits him.

I'll watch the movie again soon to see if I'm wrong, but I know I've never seen that.
After he gets hit by the car, you do see him flying up to heaven, but I know that's not what you're talking about.

remember guys, They always make two versions of a movie...

Okay like...homeward bound 2. I have two VHS tapes of the movie (one is what my friend gave me)

one had a version with the dog jumping up and eating the hotdog

the other deleted that scene...

The rescuers had two VHS tapes....one was the dirty version (the one with the naked girl in the window doing the...nasty...

and the one without it. Disney released two versions...the dirty one was released BY ACCIDENT because they didn't know about that certain part (i hate the VHS for that too) and then they released it that the scene was very differant...

soooo it does happen and yes Charlie did get grabbed by a devil and scream...the devil whisper to him....

and yes his body did get thrown...you got to see it.

again...depending on what release tape you had.

On the trival on here it says: In order to get a G rating, scenes of Charlie's death at the beginning and his nightmare about Hell had to be trimmed. Don Bluth used to have a personal print of the uncut version in case it was possible to print on video, but that was eventually stolen, and Goldcrest destroyed all animation paper, cels and other material related to this movie.

I believe they released it but got some kind of PG rating...then released it again with a different cut version.

Animation is very different then it is today...you don't edit it on the computer....like they do now

I still have my original VHS, and I have watched it recently. Charlie does fly through the air after being hit, and the demon does say his name before grabbing him.

As another poster said, there may be another version, but this darker version does exist as part of the original release.

You have the uncensored cut!!! On VHS!!! Quick!!! Convert the scenes of Charlie being struck down dead, and (dare I say it) the more explicit Hell nightmare to YOUTUBE!!! (Truthfully, only the former should've been kept, but whatever! At LEAST they originally had his body flying through the air, as ITCHY FVCKING SAID!!! )

reply

This is why I still buy VHS, WHENEVER HUMANLY POSSIBLE!!! On dvd, you hardly ever get an original cut, and it makes me sick. I never buy the things.

reply

I clearly remember both of those scenes as well. The demon saying "Charlie" was a part that sent a chill down my spine as a child. Such BS that they butcher these brilliant films due to today's political correctness. It's really just good old fashioned censorship, restructured to seem acceptable for modern people.

reply

I don't remember that scene at all.
