According to TVShowsonDVD.com season 2 is coming to DVD in October, but 4 episodes were excluded from the release because of legal or song clearance issues that couldn't be worked out.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: Due to clearance issues, the following episodes are excluded from Season 2: "Born to Hang," "Bad Company," "Blood Money," "Littlest Cowboy."
This sucks. Bad Company is probably my favorite episode of the series. Blood Money is at least in the top 5 best of the series. Born to Hang is Noah's introduction. Littlest Cowboy is the only one I could live without. The set is crap. I'm really upset about this release....
We've waited this long for season 2, I wish they would have taken some more time to work out the legal issues and given us a full season set. Since they gave up on trying to work out these issues I'm pretty sure we'll never get another release with the full season 2.
We've been waiting since 2006 when season 1 was first released and after all this time we're going to still come up 4 episodes short of getting the entire series.
Even if they decide to release a complete series set they still won't have these episode included since they gave up on negotiations with whoever they had the legal issues.
On top of that they nearly doubled the price for this incomplete season 2. When seasons 1 and 3 were released by this same company earlier this year their initial price was 11.99 each. This one's listed right now on Amazon at a pre-order price of $22.46.
My sentiment exactly, though The Littlest Cowboy is the only one that I CANNOT live without. But I really, really want the others too, especially Born to Hang and Bad Company. I could easily live another year without the season 2 set, had that meant that we would get a complete series in the end instead of this rip-off. So sad and annoying!
Another thing is bothering me: What's the deal with Born to Hang and Blood Money? What's in those episodes that would need extra clearance? It doesn't make sense to me that these episodes couldn't be on the discs.
Bad Company and Littlest Cowboy both have songs performed by artists in them, so at least that makes sense. The version of the song in Bad Company is already a cover of the song that was never commercially released, so I'm not sure what the issue is there.
At the end of the day, they could have modified the episodes to still include them. The only one this would really be a problem with is Bad Company, because the song, in some form, really has to be there.
I may still get the sets, because I'm grateful that they are at least trying to release this for the fans. But, I'm going to have to find an alternate means of obtaining the missing episodes in order to have a complete set....
I am wondering if "Born To Hang" might have something to do with Della Reese. That actress is notorious for protecting her roles. If there was some reason for her not wanting it to be released, she could block it.
However, it is all just speculation. I am glad that I will have some semblance of a complete set, though, even if I am missing a few episodes. It will be nice to have the vast majority on DVD, although I wish the DVDs had some extras, you know...like interviews, behind the scenes stuff.
Actually, what I would really like to see are some bloopers from the show.
I want you to remember my hand at your throat... the one man who beat you.
Well, I got the whole series. I dealt with the missing episodes by downloading them from Youtube. I made a DVD with the missing episodes. The quality is not as good as the DVDs, but at least I have the whole series. If they ever re-release Season 2 legitimately, I'll pick it up.
That's what I ended up doing, too. I tried to find better downloads of the four episodes, but those youtube videos were all that I could find. And all 4 episodes were in 5 parts each, so it was a pain to download all of them, but at least I can watch them when I want now. Hulu still has all three seasons up for free and I can watch these 4 episodes there in better quality than the youtube videos, but you never know when they'll pull videos from that site, so I downloaded the 4 just in case.
The Hulu videos don't work on Hulu Plus either. That's lame because I hate watching stuff on my computer. That's why I got the Youtube videos. I merged the five parts into single videos for each episode. I'm a little annoyed that they do not have the end credits on them, but it's all I have for now....
I don't like watching shows on my computer monitor either, but I've got my computer linked to my TV with an HDMi cable so I can watch online and still see it on my TV. The only thing about watching on Hulu is the commercials. My adblocking software removes the ads when watching shows on sites like ABC.com, CBS.com, Fox.com, or NBC.com, but on Hulu the ads aren't blocked.
This also allows me to just browse the internet while using my TV set as a huge monitor.
Actually I said I downloaded the episodes that weren't included on the DVD from Youtube in 5 part segments for each episode. I downloaded those episodes segments with the real player download add on on my firefox browser. I then edited together the 5 separate parts of each episode with Windows Movie Maker to make full episodes before putting them on DVD
I also said they were on Hulu and I could watch them there in better quality, but would have to watch online and with commercials. You can't download Hulu videos with the real player download add on. It just downloads the first commercial, not the episode.
Note that they have similar packaging, but the first set says "Season Two" while the second set says "The Second Season". This set, in addition to the episodes missing in the first set, drops Dead Ringer and The Play's the Thing. The worst part is that the episodes are still listed on the packaging, but not on the discs. This throws off everything as certain episodes now end up being on different discs than the packaging indicates.
Not sure why they'd re-release the set with even more episodes removed. Buyers beware! I learned this the hard way. Amazon now notes the issue on the page, but it's easy to overlook.
After rewatching the episodes on This TV, I really think that the reason why these episodes were dropped was because of the music in the episode. Each episode dropped on the original release has a song with lyrics in the show. I think it probably has something to due with copyrights.
