Death Do We Part -Interpretations
I am curious to see how others understood this episode. It's the one starring John Stamos.
We all know the opening. Lucy is being brought out to the woods -along with the body of the Diamond trader. Later, Ruth tells Johnny in the car she'd feel better about them if he killed Lucy. So, here's the questioning scene.
Johnny has Lucy turn around, but rather than shooting her, he shoots Tony and Frank. Then he and Lucy team up to kill Ruth and get everything in her safe. Afterward, Lucy double-crosses him.
How do people see this?
1. Lucy's Fantasy -how she wished / wanted things to turn out.
2. Johnny's Fantasy -maybe imagining that Lucy was a gold-digger who'd get over on him made it easier to shoot her.
3. Scene for the audience -to see what would have happened had Lucy not be discovered by Ruth.
Just makes me wonder. I always thought it was #1. But know now it doesn't make sense, given Lucy's line to Johnny -mirroring what Ruth said to him, when she wasn't there to hear it. "I'd feel better about us, if you did it."
So how have you always understood the line? Like me, did you think it was one thing at first, but changed your mind later?

If you're gonna pretend to cut her hair, at least put some scissors in your hand!
