Al Jean and Matt Selman needs to go

They've been running the show for almost 25 years on and off and while I'm not a post-golden age Simpsons hater as MOST people are and quite frankly enjoyed most of the episodes during the last two and a half decades. But even I can admit the show has long lost its dark edgy drama side that we mainly saw during Seasons 1-12. For the most part, the show is too light-hearted and focused on the comedy and gags. I think what really caused that was the producers trying to compete with Family Guy, South Park, Futurama, etc. which mainly focused on the humor. I will admit, the humor never disappoints, but I don't think we need it heavily used to much.

I tweeted to Al so many times to bring the show back to its darker roots and one time in the Fall of 2021 he responded that the then-upcoming two-parter episodes "A Serious Flanders" would be just that. A quick side note on that: GOLLY, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS WAS THREE YEARS AGO! I THOUGHT THIS WAS A YEAR OR TWO AGO. WHERE DOES THE TIME GO??? But I remember him tweeting me on that episode being serious so 2021 it was when he said this. Anyway, those episodes were good and what I want to see more of. It was just disappointing they weren't canon in which the characters we saw die should have been the real deal. A true turning point for the show to lean back into a darker dynamic that's been missing for 20+ years by that point. UGH, WHAT A MISSED OPPORTUNITY. Do you guys think this should have been the end of Disco Stu and Mr. Burns?

So yeah, as a thirty-year-old who's been watching this show on the regular for twenty years and still loving it, I want the darker serious edge to return. I want Homer to be less dumb (something I also tweeted Al about) and prefer him back to how he was in Season 1. If these changes can't be made and we're still to have the show go on then the only solution is to get rid of the main people controlling the strings here.
