Rescue 911- Scariest Show on TV (to me anyway)

I used to always watch this show on Tuesday nights, and there were some episodes that scared the crap out of me. There was one I will NEVER forget, that was the one where a guy was riding his horse and somehow the horse went crazy and was dragging him on his coach or something through the woods. I was like, Oh my GOD! I was scared half to death watching some of this stuff. Some of this stuff was really freaky that I sometimes had nightmares about it. I was like 9 ot 10 years old then and to this day, no TV show has ever impacted or scared me like this one.

Some Rescue 911 episodes scared me when I was a kid, but Unsolved Mysteries scared me more. But Unsolved aside, the 911 episode that disturbed me most as a kid was the one where a dad was trying to light the basement furnace while his kids sat in the stairway. There was a propane gas leak, and a fireball shot up the stairwell and severely burned the kids.

reply

Oh my God that one freaked me out too! Another one was the kid that got something caught in an escalator at the mall and it was choking him. And the one where this crazy kid was running around while his dad was mowing the lawn and he got his leg shredded. Gross.

reply

Actualy the kid was sitting on the escalator as it was descending and his clothes caught, and the escalator started to pull him in. All the while the STUPID mom is not keeping an eye on him as she is on the phone...the boy is like 2 and the mom just lets him run around...!!

And the kid who got his leg chopped up(disgusting as I type this just thinking of it!!) jumps from a swing as his Grandma is mowing towards him; he thinks he can beat the mower by jumping just before it passes by him..he obviously does not make it, and gets his leg manged in the blades..and it's a gross and ugly site....

The absolute scariest one was where this guy tried to go down a chimney to rob a house and he got stuck. His upper body was sticking out of the fireplace (he was upside down) and it looked so freakishly scary. After this episode, I would be so scared of watching this show.

reply

I heard that segment with the guy in the chimney was like a Christmas themed episode..I think he wanted to steal a piano..but he got stuck in the chimney with his head poking out of the bottom saying "help me, I'm stuck"..and the family just thought it was hilarious that this guy was attempting to come down the chimney like Santa..I think the burgler was actualy harmless, and he called himself Santa..

At the end of the segment, I think the family got a poloroid picture of this guy with his head sticking out of the chimney, and wrote at the bottom, "drop in anytime!"

And they sent it as a Christmas card to their friends, and they had a great laugh...

Oh my god, the kid with his leg stuck in the escalator has stayed with me my whole life. Every time I get on an escalator I make sure that the hem of my pants won't get stuck and that I'm stepping carefully. That episode has definitely stayed with me. Or scarred me...
I remember this girl that was home while people tried to break into her house too, that was terrifying, considering I spent quite a bit of time alone at home when I was a kid.

im a 90's kid and i think the scariest thing about the show is its so 90's :D

reply

i 100% agree...I actually came on imdb to leave a post on here called "Nightmares" cause me my brothers always talk about how it scared the crap out of us, but we never admitted it then....lol...

I don't think it scared me the first time around, but there are some episodes that I looked at on youtube and found hard to watch. Like the kid getting stabbed in the throat by his toothbrush?!?? It's so... ugh. Really squicks me now; same with the guy who cuts himself with the power saw.

First off I liked this show alot when I was a kid (wish it was still running or on DVD)I think the scariest one was when a little girl runs into the house for a gramcracker and as she runs back out she breaks a screen door window and gets stabed by a shard of the glass.

I was wondering if you knew anyone on youtube that has the segment entitled University Pipe Bomb, would they upload them to youtube? Thanks.

reply

I'm sure it scared some of you, but from the time I was 15 months old i loved this show. and it has now become a career path for me, and i owe it mainly to this television show!

I also thought the scariest one was the dad lighting the propane tank in the basement that blew up and burnt the kids. I watched this show every Tuesday and that is the episode that stays with me to this day - for several years I would never go inside buildings that had propane tanks outside.

I used to watch "Rescue" every Tuesday and "Unsolved" every Weds., when I was only about 10 years old. I don't know WHY my parents, who were pretty strict, let me watch this stuff! These shows were not family friendly and scarred me for life. The only good thing I can think of is maybe it kept kids from playing with guns or doing stupid crap.

I think today's scariest show is Forensic Files. I can definitely see myself, 10 years from now, talking about how bad that show scares me but I can't stop watching it!

This show was one of many sources of childhood trauma for me. I used to watch this, Unsolved Mysteries, Are you Afraid of the Dark? and America's Most Wanted, i was in elementary school at the time and they all scared the hell out of me haha but this one in particular was the most traumatizing. I used to cry almost every night because i was convinced the house was gonna burn down or we were going to get robbed. Good times!

The ones that were the most vivid and freaky to me when I was a kid was the episode where the guy got his hand cut off-the scream scared me worse than his hand getting chopped off. Also, the episode where a guy fills up an air mattress full of freon and his son gets poisoned by it. I still have that vivid image of the kid vomiting oozy blood LOL.

There were 2 in particular that really really got to me (and still do, i watched them on youtube recently and almost couldn't finish them. and I'm a horror movie buff!!!!). It was the one where the kid go stuck in the escalator. I still get nervous every time I'm on an escalator because of it. And the one where a kid had a M-80 blow up in his hand. The 911 call in that one was one of the most horrible things I've ever heard. Listening the horror in that kids voice was like a getting stabbed in the heart.

the one where the little girl fell in the washing machine always got me. It amazed me that she managed to get her whole body in such a small space without anyone noticing

yea, this shows, UM, and Amw were my three faves back in the day. REscue 911 and Unsovled Mysteries had scared me the most though. I think the only time I got scared while watching AMW was when they showed two girls playing in their front yard and some guys in the car had randomly shot them drive by. I remember they interviewed one of the girl in the hospital. The second time was when they showed Jonbenet ramsay's case. There were nights when I couldn't sleep in peace because of spooked I was from watching Unsolved Mysteries. I kept feeling that I'm being watched even though my house is not haunted. I had to stop watching it on Friday nites when it was on NBC or CBS because it was just too creepy for me. I remember they showed one where this house was haunted and the owner had saw a ghost of a little girl going into her room, the second time was a ghost of womanly figure in the hallyway with no face, the third was of a man in the living room. That episode really creeped me out.

The ones on Rescue 911 that really shooked me up was:

-when a father went downstairs to check on the water heater. he stupidly lights up a match and then a fireball had shooted and shook up the whole house. the kids that were sitting on the stairsteps got so badly burned that their hair was completely gone.

-a girl and father in hawaii had planned to spend the day together by going on a picnic. they were riding in their car when a dump truck had overturned with sand burying them underneath. That was very scary. I think it was one of these episodes where I came to my mom and told her that I love her. It just made me realize not to take things for granted. I've have seen this episode in such a long time.

-when a girl decides to give her little brother a bath and had turned the water all the way to "hot". her little brother's skin was practically melting due to the heat! very disturbing, indeed.

-when a guy nearly lost his hand by a motorsaw. the way he screamed really scared the crap out of me!!! it felt as if i was watching a horror movie!

-two cars were ran over and smashed by a runaway garbage truck. very scary and horrifying to watch. i would hate to be on those people's shoes.

-a guy lost his leg after trying to stop some roller coaster ride.

-when i was younger, i had this immense fear of lawnmowers like i would get scared of losing a limb. just the sound of it would make my heart pound in agony. i'm not sure what triggered that but one time one of the workers who would cut the lawn did something bad to my mother's car bumper with it. Thank god I don't remember seeing this episode when I was younger. I saw this episode from rescue 911 on youtube recently where this little boy had lost his leg after being ran over by his grandmother's lawnmower.

Omg Yes! Rescue 911 and unsolved mysteries used to scare the hell out of me when I was a kid. I vividly remember crying, because I was too scared to get up and walk down the hallway to the bathroom.
