Plans for Season 6? (spoilers for Mirror Image)

"Mirror Image" wasn't written or filmed as the last episode, so I have to wonder where they were planning to take the series if they'd been picked up for another year. It changed a LOT of the show's narrative.

For example, Sam is told he's controlling the leaps, so how were they going to work that in? Al no longer lost Beth, so the 'new' Al might have been very different from the Al that Sam knew. He might not even know Sam any more or be involved in the project. They'd have to account for the fact that now Al is happily married to Beth with four daughters.

And would they have shown Sam controlling his leaps, or trying to?

It just makes me wonder what the plans were considering the very different path the show was going to start taking.

There were rumors that Al was going to be a time traveller and chase after Sam into the future.

Or....did they know that was the last episode at the time they filmed it? It seemed like the stuff at the end was just tacked on when they realized the show was done....as if they needed some "closure." It just seemed like it was done in a hurry. "Oh, the show wasn't renewed? Let's just throw on some written words telling people what was going to happen...."

Example (spoiler), it has Sam making things right for Al and Beth. If this wasn't going to be the last show, perhaps they would've had an episode at a later date (maybe when the show was really going to end--and they knew it was ending) showing Al and Beth reuniting.

It was cancelled after they shot the episode. There was a clip online that showed the Al picture leaping into a current picture with his wife and daughters. Never understood why the picture leaped until then.

Ah, bummer. But thanks. I will just have to be happy with the knowledge it existed. I chuckle to think of Al with all daughters.

It just makes me wonder what the plans were considering the very different path the show was going to start taking.

There were a few ideas that never quite made it, but were planned:

1. Al and Sam leaping together.

2. Sam teaming up with a teenage leaper while Al resumes his place as observer.

3. More leaps into celebrities or brushes with pre-fame celebrities.

4. Sam was at one point going to actually leap into an alien who gets captured to Area 51.

When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.
