I'm not sure about any of this. It is a little difficult to wade through the Amazon listings of different versions. The reviews of the film all combine into one. There are negative reviews only because of the edited versions. But it's hard to tell which ones are edited.
All I can say is, with this movie, more is certainly better. Get the one you can find that claims to have the longest run time, I guess.
I've only ever seen one version and it was about 6 hours total. (Four 1.5 hr segments, just as it would have been on TV when it first ran.) I have owned the VHS version and the DVD version which I believe they have visually altered to appear to be "widescreen." I'm not super crazy about it, surprisingly, because some times the image feels crowded.
But again, as to length, if there is one out there that is truly 384, go for it. I have my doubts though. CERTAINLY don't get a copy that is in the 200's. Just make sure it is 360+.
This is one of the best movies ever made.
